Iain was educated at Forfar Academy before going on to the University of Aberdeen where he gained his LL.B (Honours) and his Diploma in Legal Practice.

Having completed his traineeship with an Aberdeen firm in 2000, Iain then went on to work for another North East firm before joining Munro & Noble in 2004, becoming an Associate in 2005.
