Born in Wick, Caithness in 1954. Educated at Wick High School and Edinburgh University where he graduated LLB in 1975. Bruce worked in private practice in Ross-shire before joining Munro & Noble as a general practitioner in 1982.

He became a partner in 1983 and is now resident partner in the firms Property Shop specialising in Conveyancing, Estate Agency, Mortgages and Financial Services. He also has considerable experience of crofting law and croft related matters.
